It’s hard to believe summer is already slipping away — seriously, where did the time go? It feels like it just started. Approaching fall is always a little bittersweet. As wonderful as summer is, the thought of crisp, stunning autumn days has its own charm. Apple picking, pumpkin spice coffee, hot apple cider… who would say no to that? Definitely not me.
And then comes the holiday season — dreaded by some, adored by others. I fall firmly into the “love it” category. For me, the holiday season starts early: a colorful Halloween, followed by a more subtle but festive Thanksgiving, and then the grand finale — Christmas. Trees, candles, gifts, way too much food, and finally a quieter New Year’s Eve to close it all out.
Best Holiday Traditions in New York City
One of my absolute favorite traditions each year is heading into New York City. Yes, it gets crowded (especially after the Rockefeller Tree Lighting), but it’s worth every minute.
Visiting Manhattan in early December is the perfect way to jump headfirst into the holiday spirit. Ice‐skating at Rockefeller Center or Wollman Rink — the latter with gorgeous Central Park views — is a must. Then there’s Bryant Park, where you can sip hot chocolate and browse the seasonal boutiques. These little pop‐up shops are ideal for finding unique gifts and keepsakes.
A stroll down Fifth Avenue is always an adventure. You’ll see the famous Rockefeller Christmas Tree, but the store windows are the real showstoppers. Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Gucci — all decked out in dazzling holiday displays. Don’t forget to peek into St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Step inside for a serene moment away from
the bustle, or grab a few selfies outside where the seasonal floral arrangements make the perfect backdrop.
And while you’re in Manhattan, you have to eat. One of my favorite holiday treats is afternoon tea at The Plaza Hotel — creamy scones, delicate finger sandwiches, and steaming hot tea. It’s fantastic every time.

No holiday trip is complete without Radio City Music Hall. The venue is iconic, but the Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes is the real magic. Their synchronized routines, colorful costumes, whimsical characters, and Santa himself create a show that delights audiences of all ages. The Rockettes celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2025, and the tradition continues to draw thousands of visitors each season. Many return year after year making Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes a great holiday tradition.
