Join A-1 Tours this year to explore the Du Pont Legacy – a fantastic story of how it all began. We visit mansions, museums, and stunning summer gardens that each hold their own unique character and rich history.
The Legacy Tour is split over the three days. July 16, August 27 and December 10, 2026. While we would love for you to join us for all three days, you are welcome to attend just one—choose the experience that suits you best.
We depart early in the morning for the Brandywine Valley, setting out for another memorable day filled with history, grand mansions, and beautiful gardens. Our first stop is the absolutely stunning Nemours Estate, a 102‑room mansion inspired by Versailles’ Petit Trianon, where Marie Antoinette once found refuge. Built in the early 1900s by Alfred I. du Pont, the estate takes its name from a small town in France. Here, you’ll explore exquisitely manicured formal French gardens, offering dramatic views of gilded statues and sparkling fountains. Your visit is self‑guided, with knowledgeable staff stationed throughout the accessible rooms of the mansion, ready to share stories and answer questions as you explore at your own pace.
From here, we head out for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before continuing on to the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library.
Winterthur Estate was the longtime home of its founder, Henry Francis du Pont, a prominent art collector and horticulturist whose influence was significant in his time. Today, Winterthur is a wonderful destination—especially in the summer—when visitors can enjoy scenic walking trails and breathtaking floral displays throughout the grounds. You will have access to the public tram ride through select areas of the gardens, and ample time to tour the beautiful mansion and current exhibitions at your own pace. As at Nemours, professionally trained staff are stationed throughout the Winterthur mansion to share fascinating insights and answer any questions you may have
